Sam Clayden is a professional portrait artist working from his Wimbledon studio. A frequent exhibitor in London, most regularly with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, he is currently taking portrait commissions.

His work is guided by the belief that nature, light, atmosphere, and simple shape and colour design can be harnessed to communicate something beyond words.

Working closely with clients, Sam seeks to capture on canvas not only a likeness but the essence of the sitter—the memory of them. From the choice of pose and clothing to composition and paint application, every element of pictorial design is considered to evoke the presence, character, and personality of the individual.
